It's Not Hansel and Gretel (It's Not a Fairy Tale #2) by Josh Funk

We love finding different versions of fairy tales in our house. My kids tend to think they are so funny to watch and it really keeps their attention most of the time. Of course on the 26th of Februarys is Tell a Fairy Tale day so we had to read a fairy tale leading up to it. In this book, it's about Hansel and Gretel. They will not listen to their storyteller. For one who lives a trail of bread crumbs lying around, when people are starving? And who is that sweet old lady who lives in a house made of cookies and candy? It's time for these wacky siblings to take their fairy tale into their own hands. It's Not Hansel and Gretel by Josh Funk illustrated by Edwardian Taylor was published in March 2019. Not Hansel and Gretel is #2 in It's Not a Fairy Tale series.  This book was a Goodreads Choice Award Nominee for Picture Books in 2019.

This book is so colorful and so childlike it's perfect for kids. The illustrations in this book are colorful and really draw the attention from kids. This book is a little hard to read to read loud as it bounces back and forth between the characters talking to each other. So it's sometimes hard to keep who is talking straight. But its great for kids to read and I would say 2nd grade up would have a easier time reading the book. There is vocabulary words in this book that you might have to explain, such as famine. But it's great to help kids know different vocabulary words that they might not come across. It's a cute book and really worth checking out.
