Book Review: Every Month is a New Year: Celebrations around the World by Marilyn Singer

We are celebrating the New Year's by reading some books. This book is how people around the world celebrate the New Year's. It goes month to month through out the book. They talk about Chinese New year, Nowruz, Rosh Hashanah, Diwali, and many more in a collection of poems. Every Month is a New Year: Celebrations around the World by Marilyn Singer.

I had a lot of hope for this book but I felt like it fell short. My kids were bored and a lot of the information in the poems were really not needed. This book really went over my kids head. We did like that they were poems. My kids were surprised that poetry can be used in non-fiction way. The illustrations were colorful and really show what the holidays look like. But we would have preferred photographs for this book. All in all it's a good book just don't read right before bed as it's super long.

In this activity I just took some toilet paper rolls and cut the ends. The kids then used them as stamps with paint and made fireworks on construction paper. The kids loved it and it was a quick and easy craft.
