A Color of His Own by Leo Lionni

Elephants are gray. Pigs are pink. Only the chameleon has no color of his own. He is purple like the heather, yellow like a lemon, even black and orange striped like a tiger! Then one day a chameleon has an idea to remain one color forever by staying on the greenest leaf he can find. But in the autumn, the leaf changes from green to yellow to red...and so does the chameleon. When another chameleon suggests they travel together, he learns that companion is more important than having color of his own. No matter where he goes with his new friend, they will always be alike. A Color of His Own by Leo Lionni was published in January 1975.

I love the illustrations in Leo Lionni books. You can tell that he loves using colors and they are perfect in grabbing young readers attention. The text in these books are simple enough that a young child to understand when they are read but they are a bit longer for a new reader to be reading by themselves. I love this story as it reminds kids to be themselves. Cassie really enjoyed this book and we had a lot of fun water coloring our own chameleon to go with us reading the books. I highly recommend checking out this book.
