Seven Blind Mice by Ed Young

It's a pillar, says one. It's a fan, says another. One by one, the seven blind mice investigate the strange Something by the pond. And one by one, they come back with a different theory. It's only when the seventh mouse goes out - and explores the whole something - that the mice sees the whole truth. Seven Blind Mice by Ed Young was published in 1992. This book has won the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award for Picture Book in 1992. It was nominated for Caldecott Medal in 1993.

This is such a cute story that can help with the introduction about perspective. I love how each mouse saw something different then the other as they felt around the object that they came across. The illustrations are perfect for this book in being so simple. Cassie really enjoyed this book and loved guessing what the item was. The text was easy to read the only hard part was not saying what the item is. I highly recommend checking this text out.

An idea for an activity to do with this book is blindfold kids and have them feel around an object. Then let them guess what is. Then have them try to draw the item on a piece of paper afterwards. Once done have them present to each other what the item they touched was. Then ask the kids guess what it is and see if they were right.
