Goldy Luck and the Three Pandas by Natasha Yim

In this Chinese American retelling of "Goldilocks and the Three Bears," a careless Goldy Luck wreaks havoc on the home of a family of panda bears. She eats up the littlest panda's rice porridge, breaks his rocking chair, and rumples all the blankets on his futon. When Goldy takes responsibility for her actions, she makes a new friend just in time for Chinese New Year. Goldy Luck and the Three Pandas by Natasha Yim illustrated by Grace Zong was published in 2014.

So one of my kids earned this for the summer reading program through the library. Which we thought was such a neat idea for a normal fairytale to be changed into one that is a different culture then ours. In our house we celebrate Chinese New Year by making homemade Chinese food and watching the dragon dancing videos. We also look up what the animal of the year is. So finding a book that introduces Chinese New Year my kids though was pretty cool. The illustrations in this book are amazing. They are bright and colorful. You see a lot of red which in the Chinese culture is good luck, I believe. The wording is a little on the complicated side with some of the pronouncing of Chinese food but not too difficult to figure out. I love the story-line and it goes in line with the fairy tale that American's grew up with. I highly recommend checking it out.
