The Girl Who Thought in Pictures by Julia Finley Mosca

Meet Dr. Temple Grandin - one of the world's quirkest science heroes! When young Temple was diagnosed with autism, no one expected her to talk, let alone become one of the most powerful voices in modern science. Yet, the determined visual thinker did just that. Her unique mind allowed her to connect with animals in a special way, helping her invent groundbreaking improvements for farms around the globe! The Girl Who Thought in Pictures : The Story of Dr. Temple Grandin by Julia Finley Mosca illustrated by Daniel Rieley was published in August 2017. This book has won NSTA Best STEM Books for K-12 Selection, NSTA Outstanding Science Trade Books Selection, Dolly Gray Children's Literature Award Recipient, and A Mighty Girl Book of the Year.

For those who don't know, Miles has autism. He was diagnosed at the age of three as non-verbal low-functioning. Now he is a talkative 8 year old who still struggles at times but is doing great. I love this book so much. It's hard to explain to kids what autism is like and I feel like this book helps a lot. I have read it to friends of my son but also his classmates every year. Every year, I go into the school and read this book to them. It helps them feel comfortable enough to ask questions and helps them understand my son. The illustrations in this book are colorful and really help explain the book. It's a great book that I really hope that more kids will be able to read.
