The Napping House by Audrey and Don Wood

 

Everyone knows the cumulative rhyme "This is the House That Jack Built," but this poem is close on it's heels in the race. The Napping House by Audrey and Don Wood was published in 1984. This book has won SCBWI Golden Kite Award for Picture Book Illustrations in 1984, and the California Young Readers Medal for Primary in 1987. 

I heard about this book so much and knew that we had to check it out. I was in luck that the library had this book and it wasn't in holds. The illustrations for this book are amazing and colorful. It's not wonder that it won awards for them. Cassie really loved looking at every page at the illustrations and giggling at each character that joined. The text is adorable and easy to read even with all the rhyming. It was easy to use the text to point out the rhymes. It's a cute story and we used it for bedtime reading at our house.
