Book Review: Al Pha's Bet by Amy Krouse Rosenthal

Alphabet books are often among a child's first exposures to read aloud as well as the skill of acquiring knowledge from printed text. These often help teach the alphabet letters and the order they are in to all ages. "Al Pha's Bet" by Amy Krouse Rosenthal talks about a way the alphabet was created in a fun fiction way. The king announces that twenty-six recently invented letters need to be put in order. Al makes a bet with himself that he is the man for the job. But he needs some help along the way. This book was published in 2011.

As a mom I really enjoyed reading this story it has repetitiveness as you say the alphabet in order through out the book. But also it's a way to gage on what does your child think the next letter is before you read it. I often asked Mason "What letter do you think is going to come next?" I really liked using this book in my homeschool preschool for that reason. Mason loved the simple illustrations that were in this book. They had weird creatures but for the most part you can tell what things are suppose to be. It kept his attention to the story. He also loved how the letters came to be in order. He giggled at Al's weird attempt when he find each word.
