A Kenya Christmas by Tony Johnston

Every year Juma's mysterious Aunt Aida asks the same question: "What is your number one Christmas wish?" Juma always wishes for the same thing: to see Father Christmas. It's hard to imagine what he looks like when you live in a hot African town with no snow, no sleigh, and certainly no reindeer. But Aunt Aida is full of magic, and she promises to do what she can to make Juma's greatest wish come true. A Kenya's Christmas by Tony Johnson illustrated by Leonard Jenkins was published in September 2003.

So reading this to a preschooler most likely was not the best choice. But I love reading about different cultures and I think reading about places and cultures that are different then mine helps my children understand different types of people we come across. I really loved this book as a mom. I learned that there is places in Kenya that do celebrate Christmas. It may not be the Christmas like mine own but it's still Christmas. The illustrations in this book are so life-like that it really captures the scene. I like it rather then a cartoon for these type of books. Cassie really enjoyed looking at the pictures even though she is still a bit young for the text. The text was okay to read-aloud. Only had trouble with some of the names of things as they are a different culture then mine own. But we made it through. It's an amazing book and I recommend checking it out with your family for Christmas.
