Book Review: 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher
Thirteen Reasons Why has won several awards and has received five stars from Teen Book Review. It also is a #1 New York Times bestseller. It also has received high reviews from fellow authors such as Ellen Hopkins, Chris Crutcher, and Gordon Kormon. It is now on Netflix as a Netflix Original.
Hannah Baker, faced many trials and heartaches during her high school years so badly that she takes her own life. Not before she recorded 13 reasons why and is making all those who caused her pain to listen and follow her voice. It's now Clay Jensen's turn to listen to the tapes. Clay is mentioned on one of the tapes. If he listens, he will find out why she took her own life. Clay spends the night crisscrossing his town with Hannah as his guide. He becomes a firsthand witness to Hannah's pain, and as he follows Hannah's recorded words throughout his town, what he discovers changes his life forever.
I loved loved this book that I can't wait to read more by Jay Asher. He brought out suicide and bullying like no one else out there in this book. Hannah, I wish wish I could be this girl's best friend as I grieved all of the pain she felt as she told her story to Clay. Clay is sweet boy that you find out that could have done many things to stop what Hannah was going through if only he spoke up through his feelings for her. It makes you realize how friends, classmates, and even staff at school impact students lives and can cause them hardships. If only people listened to Hannah in the first place. I recommend reading this book and right now I am watching the amazing story come to life on Netflix.
