Imogene's Antlers by David Small

The family doctor, the school principal, and even Imogene's know-it-all brother, Norman, fail to resolve her dilemma. Imogene, the cook, and the kitchen maid, however, make the best of things, finding unusual uses for Imogene's new horns. Meanwhile, the problem appears to be solved when Imogene awakes the next morning antler free. But the family are in for a surprise when Imogene comes down to breakfast. Imogene's Antlers by David Small was published in 1985. This is book one of Imogene book series. This book was a nominee for California Young Readers Medal for Primary in 1988.

This is one of those books that makes kids giggle no matter how many times they read it. I love using this book to ask the kids to come up with solutions for the antlers themselves. The illustrations are beautiful and detailed. The illustrations are colorful and really help the story be visualize for the reader. The book is written for a 2nd and up grades to be able to read. But this book is perfect to read aloud. Cassie really enjoyed listening to this silly tale. We had a lot of fun trying to think of useful ways that we would be able to use the antlers if it happened to us.
