A Dragon in the Family by Jackie French Koller

Ever since Darek saved Zantor the dragonling, they've been inseparable. Darek is the only family Zantor has ever known. But now Darek is bringing Zantor home from the Valley of the Dragons. The villagers are up in arms! He and his brother Clep are called traitors. Their best friends are turning against them. Even Darek's father has been threatened for allowing the enemy in their midst. How can Darek prove that dragons are good neighbors to the villagers, who have turned against them all? A Dragon in the Family by Jackie French Koller illustrated by Judith Mitchell was published in 1993. This is book 2 in The Dragonling series.

So my in-laws decided to sell their family home and RV for their retirement. That meant a lot of their things had to go. So I received a lot of books that my husband and his siblings grew up reading. This book actually somehow came from one of my husband's elementary teachers. Mason and I needed a chapter book to start for our one-on-one reading and the book that we wanted was still on hold at the library. So I grabbed this book for us to see if we like it. We actually, finished the book in that week. This book is so unique that it doesn't have a lot of illustrations throughout. Also that some of the words are pretty hard to figure out what they were. But we felt like we didn't miss much for not reading book 1. This book was so interesting and thrilling to read. Mason really enjoyed the silly antics of the dragon. But also I believe this book taught him that it's okay to stand up against adults when you know it's something that is right. Just have some evidence to back you up. We really enjoyed how we had to use our imagination to see everything in this book not like a lot of books for older elementary books are now. I highly recommend checking this book out. You won't be disappointed at all.
